Industrial fencing

We plan the fence around the property’s real operations — who enters the site, what vehicles use each gate, what must be protected, when the entrances operate, and how the system will be maintained.

A secure fence can still create operational problems
Gates that are too narrow, trucks that cannot turn safely, employees using vehicle entrances as walkways, or access equipment that does not match the way the facility operates.
We look at the entire perimeter and entry process before finalizing the design.
Before recommending a system, we consider
- Property size
- Perimeter length
- Required fence height
- Security level
- Restricted areas
- Vehicle traffic
- Truck and trailer access
- Employee entrances
- Visitor access
- Delivery schedules
- Emergency access
- Gate operating frequency
- Equipment movement
- Storage areas
- Utility locations
- Visibility requirements
- Privacy requirements
- Site lighting
- Cameras and security systems
- Terrain and drainage
- Future expansion
A light residential system does not belong here
Industrial chain link fencing is a practical choice for large perimeters, storage properties, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, utility areas, and other secure sites. Systems may be customized through changes in:
- Fence height
- Wire gauge
- Mesh size
- Post size
- Rail size
- Post spacing
- Galvanized or coated finish
- Privacy slats
- Security toppings
- Bottom rails
- Mid rails
- Bracing
- Gate style
- Gate width
- Access-control integration
Posts, rails, braces, fittings, foundations, gates, and security features all affect the fence’s strength and performance.

Galvanized industrial chain link
A durable and practical perimeter for many industrial applications. It may be used around:
- Warehouses
- Manufacturing facilities
- Equipment storage
- Material yards
- Utility areas
- Trailer parking
- Service properties
- Contractor yards
- Restricted work zones
- Government facilities
Black-coated industrial chain link
For an industrial fence with a darker, more finished appearance. It can work well around:
- Industrial parks
- Public-facing entrances
- Commercial and industrial combinations
- Managed properties
- Facilities near offices or residential areas
- Landscaped perimeter sections
The coating does not replace the need for proper material sizing and installation.
Fence height should consider
- Unauthorized entry risk
- Equipment value
- Restricted operations
- Adjacent public areas
- Visibility from nearby roads
- Insurance requirements
- Project specifications
- Government requirements
- Security toppings
- Gate height
- Camera coverage
- Local rules
Increasing height also increases wind exposure and the load placed on posts and foundations.

A stronger perimeter and more controlled entry
Commercial security fencing can be adapted for industrial sites. A high-security system may include:
- Increased fence height
- Heavier chain link fabric
- Smaller mesh
- Larger posts and rails
- Additional bracing
- Bottom rails
- Mid rails
- Security toppings
- Limited gate openings
- Automatic vehicle gates
- Controlled pedestrian gates
- Keypads or card readers
- RFID access
- Camera integration
- Telephone entry
- Intercom systems
- Vehicle detection
Barbed wire and security toppings
Options may include barbed-wire arms, extended fence height, obstacle wire, and other approved perimeter-security components. The design should account for:
- Public sidewalks
- Employee areas
- Adjacent properties
- Gate operation
- Maintenance access
- Local regulations
- Project specifications
- Insurance requirements
Security toppings should be included in the original fence design rather than added without reviewing the strength and height of the supporting system.

Screening adds wind load
Some industrial properties need to reduce visibility into storage, equipment, loading, or work areas.
Screening options
- Chain link privacy slats
- PDS slat systems
- Wind screen
- Wood screening
- Custom metal panels
- Landscape-compatible screening
- Decorative perimeter sections
Used around
- Equipment yards
- Material storage
- Trash areas
- Loading zones
- Mechanical equipment
- Service areas
- Construction staging
- Outdoor work zones
Posts, rails, foundations, and bracing must be specified around the complete screening system.
Designed around the entrance, traffic and operating frequency
Modern Fence Company fabricates custom gates in our own shop.
Gate options may include
- Double-drive swing gates
- Single-swing gates
- Sliding gates
- Cantilever gates
- Custom-sized vehicle gates
- Chain link gates
- Ornamental iron gates
- Custom hillside gates
- Manual gates
- Automatic gates
- Controlled-access gates
In-house fabrication controls
- Gate dimensions
- Frame strength
- Materials
- Hinges
- Rollers
- Supports
- Hardware
- Ground clearance
- Operator compatibility
- Finished fit
Double-drive swing gates
A wide opening using two swinging panels — equipment access, truck entrances, secondary vehicle entrances, material yards, emergency access and lower-frequency industrial entrances.
A wide swing gate requires stable posts and sufficient clear space on both sides of the opening.
Sliding industrial gates
Appropriate where vehicle stacking space is limited, a wide entrance is needed, swing clearance is unavailable, traffic is frequent, vehicles should not wait for large panels to swing, or a controlled automatic entrance is required.
The travel path should remain clear of stored materials, vehicles, snow, debris, and other obstructions.
Cantilever gates
Supported above the ground and sliding across the entrance without a ground track — industrial entrances, storage yards, warehouses, high-traffic properties and uneven vehicle surfaces.
Modern Fence Company has completed large projects involving automated cantilever gates and extensive perimeter fencing.

Gates for sloped industrial entrances
A square swing gate may drag against the ground, leave excessive clearance, fail to open fully, swing downhill, place extra stress on hinges, or interfere with vehicle clearance. Custom fabrication may be needed to match the opening and grade.

Employees, contractors, visitors and deliveries
Access control systems help industrial facilities manage employees, contractors, visitors, deliveries, and service providers.
Available entry methods may include
- Keypads
- Card readers
- Swipe-card systems
- RFID readers
- Cellular keypads
- Telephone entry
- Intercom systems
- Remote controls
- Vehicle tags
- Timed access
- Camera integration
- Pedestrian access systems
- Monitored entrance systems
