Warranty information
Modern Fence Company provides a one-year workmanship warranty for qualifying labor issues caused by our installation work. The written proposal, contract, manufacturer information, and project-specific warranty documents control the actual coverage for each project.
Whether covered work was installed according to the agreed scope
A workmanship warranty concerns the work performed by the contractor — not every change, condition, or problem that may occur after a fence, gate, or other project is installed.
Coverage is evaluated around
- The specific condition
- The work Modern Fence performed
- The materials involved
- The property
- The written terms supplied with the project
The proposal, contract, manufacturer information, and project-specific warranty documents control the actual coverage for each project.

A fence lives outdoors, and outdoor things happen to it
The following are not generally installation-workmanship issues. Rather than assuming a problem is covered or excluded based only on a description, contact us and let us review the specific condition.
- Natural material changes
- Normal wear
- Corrosion
- Weathering
- Soil movement
- Drainage
- Erosion
- Storms
- Falling trees
- Vehicle impact
- Vandalism
- Misuse
- Animal damage
- Changes made by others
- Lack of maintenance
- Conditions outside our work
Wood is a natural material
Individual boards can change independently of how the fence was installed. Wood may naturally:
- Warp
- Twist
- Check
- Crack
- Shrink
- Swell
- Change colour
That does not mean every issue with a wood fence is a material problem. If something appears unusual after installation, contact us so the condition can be evaluated. More about our wood fence installation.

Material performance is a separate question
Material performance and manufacturer equipment coverage are different from our workmanship warranty.
Automatic gate operators, keypads, access-control devices, coatings, hardware, and other manufactured products may carry separate manufacturer terms. Availability and length of manufacturer coverage depend on the product and the applicable documentation.
Customers with an automatic gate or access-control concern should contact us with information about the system and the problem rather than assuming it falls under the fence workmanship warranty. We can determine the appropriate next step based on the project and equipment involved.
A repair covers the repair
Repair work is completed within an existing system whose age, materials, earlier work, movement, and surrounding conditions may all affect performance.
A repair warranty, when provided, applies to the defined repair scope. It does not make Modern Fence responsible for unrelated portions of the existing fence, gate, or access-control system.
See our fence repair services for how repair-only projects are scoped.

Tell us early, and leave the condition as it is
Contact Modern Fence promptly. We may need to inspect the property or obtain additional information before determining whether the concern falls within the applicable warranty.

Do not make avoidable changes

Four kinds of project, four different conversations
Wood fences
Boards respond to moisture and weather. Natural material changes are outside workmanship coverage — but an unusual condition should still be looked at.
Gates
Gates move, and are affected by the surrounding fence, posts, opening, grade, hardware, and how the entrance is used. The cause needs to be evaluated.
Automatic gates and access control
These projects combine our work with manufactured components, and the two are not governed by the same warranty terms.
Commercial projects
How long is Modern Fence’s workmanship warranty?
For qualifying projects, Modern Fence provides a one-year workmanship warranty. Your project documents should be reviewed for the specific terms that apply to your work.
What does the workmanship warranty cover?
It covers qualifying labor issues when a problem is determined to have resulted from Modern Fence’s installation activity.
Is wood warping covered?
Wood warping, twisting, checking, and cracking are identified as exclusions from the workmanship warranty because they can occur as natural characteristics of the material.
Is damage from outside influences covered?
Outside influences are excluded from the workmanship warranty. The specific cause of a concern may need to be evaluated before coverage can be determined.
Does the warranty cover an entire existing fence after you repair one section?
Not necessarily. Repair warranty considerations relate to the work Modern Fence actually performed, not unrelated portions of an existing fence, gate, or access-control system.
Are automatic gate components covered by the same warranty?
Not necessarily. Manufactured equipment may have separate product warranty terms. Contact us with the equipment and project information so the applicable coverage can be reviewed.
What should I do if I think I have a warranty issue?
Contact Modern Fence promptly with your name, project address, a description of the concern, its location on the property, and current photographs. Avoid making changes to the condition before we have an opportunity to review it.
Does this page replace the warranty terms in my project documents?
No. This page is a general overview and does not replace the warranty language, limitations, exclusions, or manufacturer terms included in your project documents.
